# Trial Status

> Read the calling account's real SMS trial and shared allowance.

Requires `sends.read` and the existing API-key authentication. The key's account determines the result.

```bash theme={null}
curl 'https://api.tracklysms.com/api/v2/trial' \
  -H 'X-Api-Key: YOUR_API_KEY'
```

The `200` response contains `trial: null` before activation. An activated trial contains:

| Field | Meaning |
| - | - |
| `id`, `state` | Trial identifier; `active` or `ended` |
| `expires_at` | Explicit expiry in UTC |
| `allowance`, `used`, `reserved` | Logical free-message budget, used messages and accepted reservations |
| `remaining` | Allowance minus used and reserved, floored at zero |
| `end_reason`, `ended_at` | Nullable terminal reason and UTC time |

The read refreshes expiry and production-sender lifecycle state. It does not require new-work availability. Normal account authorization and storage checks still apply; an unavailable authority returns `503 trial_unavailable`.

All [testing groups](/api-reference/v2/trial/groups.md) share this allowance and expiry. Read the [trial guide](/guides/trial-sms.md) before sending real SMS.
